Social Capital and Maternal and Child Health in Low- and Middle-income Countries: Evidence from India

Social capital has become one of the most popular sociological concepts to be studied in public health; however, little is known about the relationship between social capital and health care utilization in low- and middle-income countries.  Using a multilevel framework, Dr. Story presented evidence from India demonstrating that social capital operates at the community level in association with maternal and child health care utilization.  Furthermore, he discussed how the association between social capital and the use of health services varies by the type of care utilized.
