Dr. Suellen Miller, Professor, University of California, San Francisco, the Bixby Center for Global Reproductive Health and Dr. Jerker Liljestrand, Program Leader for Maternal and Newborn Health and Family Planning with the USAID Better Health Services project implemented by URC in Cambodia, presented this webinar/brownbag Introducing the non-pneumatic anti-shock garment (NASG) and balloon tamponades to low resource settings: Experience from the USAID Better Health Services Project in Cambodia.
Dr. Miller has been at the forefront of research to evaluate the use of NASGs for postpartum hemorrhage in low-resource settings. Dr. Liljestrand is leading a pilot to introduce NASGs to Cambodian hospitals. Suellen described what the NASG is and how it works, and present the results of a meta-analysis of several studies on efficacy in low resource settings. Jerker spoke about URC’s experience with the field application of NASG in Cambodia, where NASGs were locally produced with adaptations for Cambodian women and are now being introduced at referral hospitals.
