Zika Virus: Technical Updates

Thursday, April 14, 2016
Hosted by CORE Group's Zika Coordinated Response Group.

The mosquito-borne Zika virus has spread explosively throughout Latin America and the Caribbean in recent months. There has been a concurrent increase in birth defects and neurological disorders in Zika affected areas. The rapidly evolving research indicates there is evidence of an association with Zika virus infection during pregnancy, leading WHO to declare a public health emergency. PAHO, WHO, and CDC have released guidance and tools to support Zika prevention and vector control. This webinar provided a synthesis of the research findings, a brief description of the need and tools for conducting assessments of knowledge, attitudes and practices related to prevention, and discusses the role of risk communication, social mobilization and the key messages for working with the population.
