Elena Janine Schooley
I have spent the last 35+ years in senior leadership positions with 2 San-Diego-based global non-profit health and development organizations: Wellstart International from 1985-2000 and Project Concern International (PCI, now Global Communities) from 2000-2021. While my MPH was focused on maternal and child health, I have become a multi-sectoral specialist in non-profit leadership, with an emphasis on program design and management of comprehensive and locally-led programming. I excel in technical and proposal writing, program design, and facilitation of complex processes such as strategic planning. Since 2007 I have been a faculty member at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies where I teach a graduate course on social and behavior change. I served as Secretary of the Board of Directors of the CORE Group from 2002-2011 as well as Co-Chair of the HIV/AIDS Working Group. I am again on the Board of CORE Group as of 2014. I have worked in the health and development field for over three decades. I specialize in strategic, integrated, human-centered and inclusive program design for optimal quality of proposals and programming. I offer specialized support in three main areas: 1) Proposal development and writing; 2) Theory of change and social change processes; 3) Facilitation to support strategic planning and organizational development. Through my work across three global regions, I have focused on social change aspects of integrated health and development programming in an effort to authentically help drive lasting positive change in the world. I have a comprehensive understanding of social and behavior change, community/social mobilization, female empowerment and gender equity, local capacity strengthening and sustainability. I can effectively work, teach or facilitate in either English or Spanish.
