Join USAID’s flagship Maternal and Child Survival Program (MCSP) and UNICEF for a webinar featuring community health information systems from Rwanda and Mozambique on Friday, December 15 from 8:00 – 9:30am EST.

BACKGROUND
In March 2017, nearly 400 community health champions from 44 countries, representing multiple sectors, gathered in Johannesburg for the Institutionalizing Community Health Conference (ICHC).

To ensure that we continue making progress towards strengthening community health systems, MCSP, in collaboration with UNICEF, is hosting a series of webinars following up on the key topic areas that came out of ICHC.

DESCRIPTION
The first webinar in the series centers on community health information systems, which were the focus of one of the critical principles from ICHC.

This webinar will pick up where ICHC left off, also drawing from the recent child health data workshop in Johannesburg, to highlight two country examples of promising health information systems:

• Rwanda’s national community health information system
• upSCALE digital health information system from Mozambique

Rwanda Presentation:

Presenters:

• Jean de Dieu Gatete, Child Health Advisor, MCSP Rwanda
• Jovite Sinzahera, Senior Monitoring Evaluation & Research Advisor, MCSP Rwanda

The presentation from Rwanda will provide an overview of the circuit of information pertaining to the national community health program. This includes the types of data being collected, how and where they are reported, the innovative technology used to submit and analyze them, and how the information is used by different levels of the health system, including the feedback received by the community health workers (CHWs) themselves. Presenters will also provide examples of implications to the services offered by CHWs and will highlight key lessons learned from MCSP’s experiences in Rwanda.

Mozambique Presentation:

Presenter:

• Alexandre Boon, Maternal and Child Health Specialist, UNICEF Mozambique

The presentation from Mozambique will describe the current status of a new CHW technology called upSCALE. This technology covers the overall CHW scope of work and has been introduced at a larger scale for a year now (2 out of 10 provinces). This CHW tool has been upgraded from a Malaria Consortium inSCALE-research project with heavy financial support from UKAID and strong technical support from MOH and UNICEF working along the team of Malaria Consortium.
