‘Voices from the Ground’: Afghanistan, Women, and Human Rights

LSBU are proud to present this timely event to mark Human Rights Day 2021 and to raise awareness to some of the issues faced by Afghanistan’s people, particularly women.
The transition this summer from US-led control, followed by a rapid fall of the Afghan government, and subsequent takeover by the Talban controlled leadership, has potentially significant implications on human rights. This is especially true for women and girls.
We hope to provide a platform for academics, field-staff, human-rights advocates, and indeed, individual voices of those affected, to highlight the current situation facing the population in the country.
With a particular emphasis on women, the event aims to present an overview of the current situation, the challenges faced, and potential advocacy activities, and the practical solutions that are available to support and nurture human rights in the country.
Through presentations, case-studies, and a panel discussion, the event will help to provide clarity on the current situation and how individuals can support and advocate for greater human-rights within the country.
With a panel of speakers comprised of human rights advocates, project managers from a variety of international and local NGOs, the event will help foster a deeper and more nuanced understanding of the realty on the ground and the implications on women and their human rights.
The event is open to all – students, academics, NGO-workers and the public. Please share with anyone you feel might be interested or benefit from attending.
