Feeding Tools for Use During the First 1000 Days to Improve Maternal and Child Nutrition

Wednesday, March 4, 2015
Hosted by the CORE Group SBC & Nutrition Working Groups

During this webinar, Amy shared the results of her research on a nutrition toolkit consisting of a demarcated feeding bowl, slotted spoon, and accompanying pictorial counseling card for use during the first 1000 days to improve maternal and child nutrition.  In India and Kenya, this simple feeding toolkit demonstrated high acceptability, feasibility, and the potential to improve nutrition of mothers during pregnancy and the first 6 months postpartum, support exclusive breastfeeding, and enhance complementary feeding practices of children 6 -23 months.  Amy is now seeking partners to test whether the feeding toolkit delivered with counseling by community health workers has superior effectiveness and cost-effectiveness in improving dietary intakes in the first 1,000 days of life in real world settings, above and beyond the provision of counseling alone.
