While presenting many challenges, the pandemic forced us to find creative solutions for supporting healthcare workers and maintaining educational continuity remotely.  To do this, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and Laerdal Global Health (LGH) joined together to develop a digital solution for training and changing practices of healthcare workers who care for mothers and newborn babies – Essential Newborn Care (ENC) Now!

ENC Now! is a digital training course for remote facilitation of the WHO Essential Newborn Care program (coming soon). It may look like Helping Babies Breathe (HBB) but the approach is new. Key features include:

  • Delivery method: Blended learning approach with digital content and face-to-face practice. Participants pairs are supported by an online (remote) and onsite (local) facilitator.
  • Format: Digital slide deck replaces the traditional printed materials and flipcharts; pre- and post-knowledge tests are available via links.
  • Hands-on: Facilitator demonstrates skills via computer camera (real-time or pre-recorded) and participants practice with feedback from remote facilitator and their partner.

We recognize that training alone is not enough to change practice, so we are also offering CRISP – Customized mentoRship and Implementation Support Package. This package offered by the AAP in collaboration with global mentors will support training and implementation of ENC Now! with added sessions on essential topics such as QI, facilitator development, and data collection.

Don’t miss this chance to learn all about it.  Sign up here for the launch webinar on Nov. 18, 2021 at 8am CST / 3pm CET!
