Advocating for Increased Male Engagement in Family Planning and Reproductive Health: A Skills-Building Session
Breakthrough ACTION
This hands-on session will give participants the opportunity to use a newly-released tool specifically designed to increase implementation of, and investment in, male engagement in family planning and reproductive health (FP/RH) programs through advocacy.
Engaging men and boys in FP/RH programs has successfully contributed to decreasing unintended pregnancies, improving maternal health outcomes, reducing sexually transmitted infections, and better meeting the needs of youth. However, decision makers do not always incorporate male engagement into their programs due to personal or political biases, a lack of technical knowledge, or fear that male engagement means shifting FP/RH funding or focus away from women and girls.
To date, relevant resources have provided male engagement impact data, frameworks, and strategies—but until now, no tool has shown how such resources can be used to create an advocacy action plan that addresses male engagement implementation and investment challenges with decision makers, head-on.
