The advisor’s primary responsibility is to ensure that Concern country programs are enabled to deliver high-quality nutrition interventions within the context of Concern’s maternal, newborn and child health programs. The advisor provides high quality technical support to Concern’s nutrition and health work across the range of countries in which Concern works—emergency, fragile/transitional and stable development contexts—and with special focus on extremely poor and vulnerable populations. S/he also contributes to organizational learning through documentation of best practices and development of tools/resources designed for Concern program staff in the field.
Based in the New York office, the candidate will dual report to the President of Concern Worldwide US on a day-to-day basis and the Head of Technical Assistance in Dublin. The Nutrition and Health advisor will be an active part of Concern’s global MNCH Unit. Up to 35% international travel is anticipated for this position.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:
• Provide technical and strategic support for design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of country and multi-country health programs, with a focus on nutrition including preventing and treating undernutrition, Community Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM), the CMAM Surge Model (anticipating and responding to seasonal spikes and shocks), and promoting good Infant and Young Child Feeding, in line with Concern’s global health strategies and global best practice.
• Support capacity building initiatives with Concern and partner staff including distance mentoring and information sharing, formal and informal training, and coaching during field visits; facilitate cross-country learning among Concern staff.
• Develop tools and guidance in line with international best practice for staff use to improve program quality.
• In coordination with country program staff, synthesize, document, and disseminate lessons learned from Concern nutrition/health programming and research, including occasional preparation of manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
• Participate in the exploration of nutrition and health funding opportunities and provide technical inputs as requested to proposals and budgets; support nutrition and health related advocacy initiatives as required.
• Provide input into Concern US promotional, media and communications materials on nutrition and health.
• Support and maintain relationships with other agencies and donors and represent Concern in national, regional and international forums as required; actively engage in nutrition and health networks with key institutions/agencies, universities, and donors within the US as appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required qualifications: • Master’s degree in Public health and / or nutrition. • Strong, current knowledge in nutrition and good familiarity with recent developments • 3-5 years’ experience in the management of health and nutrition programs in varied developing country contexts including: design, implementation, and monitoring of programs. • Experience in health system strengthening and a good understanding of capacity building approaches integrating nutrition responses in routine health service delivery. • Basic competence using quantitative, qualitative, and participatory methods for program planning / design, monitoring, and evaluation. • Prior experience in emergency, conflict settings, or fragile states • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and writing skills in English. • Ability to work both as part of a team & independently. • Ability to travel internationally up to 35% in poor and fragile contexts, sometimes on short notice and for 3+ weeks. • Must be eligible to work in the US upon hiring.
