Summary: Leads the design and development of learning, instructional, and health promotion materials to support Pathfinder’s diverse portfolio, including sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and multi-sectoral projects worldwide. Collaborates with technical advisors and country teams on learning methodologies and content, including collaboration as needed with digital health staff for utilizing digital platforms for delivery. Identifies innovative learning and training design and delivery methods, such as use of human-centered design, emotional intelligence, participatory curriculum development, and different types of media to connect with specific audiences, including low-literacy, adult learners, adolescents, providers of clinical services, and specific priority populations and contexts. Develops strategies for accommodating different learning styles and cross-cultural differences. Collaborates with monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) team to field-test and assess training, instructional and health promotion materials. Provides technical support to country offices for the development and design of training and instructional materials, job aids, curriculum, and other materials. Collaborates with the Human Resources department in the design of SRHR internal learning and training efforts for Pathfinder staff. Coordinates with Country Offices and the SRHR team to develop and organize a repository of key tools and resources.

Key Job Outcomes:

Technical Excellence: Provide high-level direction to the development of quality, user-friendly, innovative learning, instructional, and health promotion materials. Serves as subject matter expert in learning, health promotion and instructional design. Stays current on emerging, best and proven practices in adult learning pedagogy, instructional design and health promotion.

Technical Assistance: Provides technical assistance to country offices, host-country governments, local partners and other agencies to assess needs and design of Pathfinder project’s health promotion and instructional materials and services that are responsive to the needs of intended populations. Helps build technical capacity of other staff, including program management staff, as appropriate.

Assessment, Measurement, Evaluation and Reports: Prepares and analyzes pre-and post-training checks/assessments, evaluations, reviews, reports, and other as-needed projects for training and development.

Knowledge Management: Collaborates with the Knowledge Management team to maintain a repository of recommended instructional and training tools and resources.

Quality Assurance: Works with proposal and project management teams to ensure that best practices in instructional design are well documented, evaluated, and poised for scale up.

Project management and participation: Participates in cross-functional project teams. Supports program management functions as needed.

Minimally Required Job-Specific Competencies:
  • Instructional Design, Development and Delivery: Advanced knowledge of the learning and instructional design, development, and delivery process and adaption to different contexts and for different populations, including assessing needs, designing and developing relevant and effective training and health promotion materials

Minimally Required Education, Training and Experience:
  • Master’s degree in Health Education, Communication, Behavior Change, Instructional Design, or related field; or a combination of education and work experience that yields the required competencies 7 years’ experience working in international development, preferably in implementing programs in developing countries, with at least 5 years focused on learning, instructional design, or health promotion
  • Prefer: Experience in non-profit organizations
  • Prefer: Experience living or working in developing countries that aids in understanding of program context, field realities, and technical needs
  • Prefer: Experience with USAID- or BMGF-funded projects
  • French language skills highly desirable
