An interdisciplinary research group of engineers, public health practitioners, and social marketers at the University of South Florida (USF) is seeking one postdoctoral research scholar to work on an interdisciplinary project focused on improving the well-being of children and their families by reducing exposure to Pb and other toxic metals in drinking water. USF has a unique research group that has identified Pb exposure from water in Sub-Saharan Africa. We have also identified technological and behavioral-change interventions that result in reduced Pb exposure. Our group includes faculty and students from Environmental Engineering and Public Health who participate in an Engineering for International Development program and the WHO Collaborating Centre on Social Marketing and Social Change.
The postdoctoral research scholar will dedicate their time to increasing our capacity to perform interdisciplinary research that leads to reduced exposure to Pb and other toxic metals in drinking water in the U.S. and Sub-Saharan Africa. The postdoctoral research scholar will have responsibilities that may include: (1) initiate multi-investigator proposals to external funding agencies, (2) design and conduct experiments to collect laboratory and field data on Pb in water, (3) participate in designing and implementing social/behavioral science studies that generate quantitative and qualitative data, (4) set up equipment for analysis of Pb and other metals in local and global communities, (5) supervise graduate student researchers, and, (6) disseminate research findings.

The ideal candidate will hold a Ph.D. degree and interdisciplinary training in Engineering and/or Public Health (or related field), have a record of high impact peer-reviewed journal publications related to the project topic, demonstrate prior experience with designing and conducting experiments (laboratory, field, and social science) and writing proposals for external funding, and possess excellent quantitative, analytical, and communication skills.
Interested applicants should apply at the USF CAREERS site ( (the Job ID is #25138).
