The Innovation and Scale-Up Intern (Intern) will support the Center to apply business-minded and private sector approaches to the work of the Global Health Bureau, particularly to our Global Health Grand Challenge initiatives: Saving Lives at Birth, Fighting Ebola, and Combating Zika & Future Threats.

• Saving Lives at Birth calls upon the brightest minds across the globe to identify and scale up transformative prevention and treatment approaches in resource-challenged settings for pregnant women and newborns around the time of birth.
• Fighting Ebola invested in novel solutions to address barriers faced by healthcare workers and their patients in the West Africa Ebola epidemic response.
• Combating Zika & Future Threats aims to develop solutions to fight Zika and improve our ability to prevent, detect, and respond to future infectious disease outbreaks.

The Intern will support the Innovation Team in conducting market research, country prioritization analyses, and other critical launch/scale-up activities for Grand Challenge innovator(s). With oversight from the onsite manager (OSM), the Intern will provide technical support for these analyses, which aim to understand and/or identify opportunities for innovation and engagement among USAID’s 28 priority countries.

The Intern will also help to identify and document best practices for building innovation capacity in USAID’s Bureau for Global Health. In addition, the Intern will have the opportunity to support analyses around emerging technologies applicable to the field of global health, such as unmanned aerial vehicles and artificial intelligence, to strengthen USAID’s investments in this area.
