IMCI Working Group
Vision: The IMCI Working Group supports the development, documentation and advocacy of strong, truly integrated program approaches that maximize community-based child health impact.
2007 Working Group Highlights
- CORE IMCI working group members hosted a technical advisory meeting of technical experts working together to write Community Case Management (CCM) Essentials: A Guide for Program Managers, which will provide PVO and MOH managers with the most up to date innovative strategies for developing community-based programs that treat children under five years. During 2008, the guide will be finalized, reviewed, and field-tested.
- Through a subgrant to Save the Children/Bolivia, contributed to a collaborative effort in partnership with CORE Group members, PROCOSI (a network of Bolivian health organizations), the BASICS Project, the Rational Pharmaceutical Management Plus Program, and the Bolivian Ministry of Health.
Efforts in Bolivia led to recognition among government officials that a lack of training among community health workers was a problem that needed to be addressed. As a result of Save's collaborative efforts with the government, the Ministry of Health was willing to invest in improving the quality of technical accuracy of the government's training materials for community health workers who volunteer to run the communal pharmacies.
- Developed and conducted several technical updates via CORE Group's online learning tool, Elluminate. Topics this year included: Community-based IMCI and CCM Tools, Recent Studies in Infectious Disease in Maternal and Child Health, C-IMCI Implementation Framework.
