Thanks to CORE Group’s outgoing co-chairs: Elena McEwan (CRS), Dennis Cherian (World Vision) & Khrist Roy (CARE)
Altogether, these three dynamic professionals have logged over ten years of serving as CORE Group TB Working Group co-chairs. They oversaw: TB Working Group designed-and-sponsored training courses in the US and abroad; the development of unique recommendations for NGOs working in community-based TB; capturing of many case studies; hosting of community-based TB events that attracted participants from all around the world; online meetings and technical updates; represented CORE members in the STOP TB Partnership and at global conferences, and much, much more.
As she has since 2006, Dr. McEwan will continue to serve as CORE Group’s special representative within the Advocacy, Communication and Social Mobilization efforts of STOP-TB. There she has represented the realities of local TB programming efforts.
Welcome new co-chairs: Welcome Kayt Erdahl (Project HOPE) & Charlotte Colvin (PATH)
Kayt Erdahl is a program specialist with Project HOPE, working on infectious disease efforts—notably TB. Kayt’s work is notable for both its depth and quality. Participants at CORE Group’s TB/HIV State of the Art update this fall were also impressed with her heretofore undiscovered gift for moderating, as she co-hosted the event, along with Janine Schooley.
Kayt is an expert on Russia and surrounding countries, having lived or worked in several of them, including two years as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Kazakhstan. She has extensive experience in many other development hotspots as well, most recently Malawi. Kayt earned a Masters in Public Health from Tulane University in New Orleans, and was recently “Certified in Public Health.” As an undergraduate in Minnesota she studied Russian language and literature. Добро пожаловать Kayt!
Dr. Charlotte Colvin is a social scientist with ten years of experience in international health program design, monitoring and evaluation (M&E), and research. Specifically, she has provided technical assistance for M&E in the areas of tuberculosis DOTS implementation and expansion, TB/HIV program integration, prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV (PMTCT), and HIV/AIDS care and treatment. Over the past five years, she has developed and field-tested new indicators and M&E protocols related to DOTS programs and trained national, regional, and nongovernmental organization program leaders on the development and implementation of M&E plans for National TB Programs.
She has also led and/or supported a number of impact evaluation and operations research activities, including a multi-country, population-based study of adolescent reproductive health interventions and research on diagnostic delay for TB within the context of DOTS expansion and TB/HIV program integration. Prior to her work on TB and HIV/AIDS, Charlotte worked on family planning and reproductive health programs. If you’ve ever seen Charlotte present, you know that she too comes with a laid-back style belied by an amazing technical proficiency, as demonstrated recently when she gave a presentation on linkages between TB/HIV programming within the context of health system strengthening.
